COMPETITION
CISCO DIGITAL CRIBS
| WHAT TO TELL US ABOUT YOUR DIGITAL CRIB | |||||
| WHO SHOULD I PROFILE? | |||||
Who you choose
to make your film about is often as critical
as how they use technology. Your subject
should speak easily about technology and
describe the benefits in human terms. They
should be interesting to watch, have plenty
of energy, and be comfortable on camera.
This is an opportunity for your subject to
promote him or herself and their tech
projects. Above all we want to focus on
people who are passionate about their
technology and are using it in a unique or
creative way. We're particularly interested
in personalities and/or groups who create
and/or use a lot of media and video. |
| WHAT DO YOU MEAN BY DIGITAL SERVICES AND SERVICE PROVIDER? | |||||
Tech lovers all have a favorite digital service
- maybe more than one! We're talking about things like DVR, Video On Demand, Hi-Speed Internet, and Mobile Phone Service. An SP, or Service Provider, is an organization that provides some kind of wireless or landline communications service, video service or internet service or any combination of the three. Examples are a local or long distance telephone company, cellular or wireless phone carriers, Internet Service Providers (ISP), or cable TV providers. We want to know what your subject's favorite is, and who they get that service from. Cisco doesn't want an advertisement for a brand, but they are interested in how people use their service provider and home network in creative ways. It's okay to feature Cisco products (ex. Linksys, Scientific Atlanta cable boxes), but Cisco is looking to show a breadth of different experiences provided by a variety of companies.

| WHAT SHOULD THE TONE AND STYLE BE? | |||||
We want to encourage diversity; therefore filmmakers are free to make a funny film or a poignant film. They can shoot in a variety of visual styles. Let your film show the character of your subject and of the region you are from, as well as the filmmakers' individual take. What makes this crib unique? Be sure to start your clip by having the subject of your film say "Welcome to my Digital Crib." |
| DO I HAVE TO MAKE TWO SEPARATE FILMS TO SUBMIT? | |||||
Yes. The first film should be a fun, entertaining piece about the person you are interviewing, that talks about their use of technology. It should demystify the technology and describe its effect in familiar, human terms. The second film should be a closer look at the technology, showing how they have configured their crib. It should also explain how living with this new technology has changed their life. |
| DOES IT HAVE TO BE IN ENGLISH? | |||||
No. Cisco encourages a global viewpoint. Each person profiled should speak in their native language. But your film should be subtitled in English, if English is not spoken. |
| HOW IMPORTANT IS HIGH DEFINITION VIDEO? | |||||
Cisco strongly prefers submissions to be on HD in 16x9 aspect ratio. However, no one should fear exclusion because they don't have access to HD equipment. Creativity is most important in your submission. HD is preferred to allow the most flexibility to showcase these films on different websites and larger screens as a part of Cisco's Digital Cribs promotional campaign. |
| WHAT OTHER INFO DO YOU NEED FROM ME? | |||||
Everyone who submits to this competition should upload a clear headshot and bio to their Filmaka profile page. As always, they should have their subjects sign a Talent Release Form (found on the DELIVERY RULES page) before they begin filming. Winners will also be asked to submit a clear, full-body photo of their subject - see www.digitalcribs.com for an example. |
