This is really dream-like and eerie. Haunting music, brilliant stop motion. I really loved this piece. Great work! -Brian (Addiction Control)
Thanks Brian. It was the first time I did stop motion and I wasn't sure how it would compare to the better pieces I've seen here.
Hey have you ever seen any work by Jan Svankmajier? I think I'm going to have nightmares about this deranged mannequin pinocchio. It's particularly disturbing when he crawls towards you.
Hey Max,wow, I know how much of hard work is usually put into stop-motion films as I used to make Lego films when I was 12 or so. In "Homunculus" you have way more things to move with every single take. I like it and I like the atmosphere with the black background. Simple, but very effective, especially considering the music that plays.
What a nice sound and amazing animation. Bravo Vangelis. Fée
Dear Vangelis,At the bigining of my work on this thopic "The Clinic" I had a similar idea, but it seems quite difficult to me. And it is. Good work. All the best.Stanka Gjuric ("ALONE")
Hi Max, I love your work so your words mean a lot to me. I'll definitely check out Jan Svankmajier.
Hehe, name's Vangelis. Thanks for your kind words. I shot a total of 2 minutes with the puppet using StopMotion Station that clocked about 3500 jpegs. It's back-breaking work and I did a lot of guesswork since this is my first animation effort, but it liberates the imagination.
Really liked the music and the mood you set. Great short! Daniel Barosa (For Sale)
Nice use of stop motion there, Vangelis. Was the music original? It never ceases to amaze me what people here can do in a month's time...
Thanks Michael. Yeah, the music is original. I don't think of myself as the greatest musician, but it's amazing what anyone can do with a guitar, a keyboard and a good music production program.
Very, very cool film. It's rare someone pulls off stop motion so well, so great job and good luck! (Bryan - "Lucas and Mabel")
Hey Vangelis nice film. Am a big fan of stop motion ( a dying art) and i actually felt sorry for this little guy. The music was well done, quite haunting. Nice use of colours on the stickman, it made him look very robotic. Well done!
Hey Vangelis, great stop motion flick. I can definitely see where the influence of tool videos come in, and the music as well. The stop-motion was very well done, i certainly can learn alot from you. All in all, great effort! All the best.
Thanks for your words Mark. I don't think stop motion will ever die, not as long as Tim Burton is around anyway. Check out Strings, a Danish stop motion movie (you can find it dubbed in English), it's basically King Lear with puppets.
Thanks Zhen. Tool is a huge influence, but they in turn are practically ripping off (by their own admission) the Brothers Quay for their videos. Any help I can give, please send me a message.
You really are one talented film-maker.All the best.
Thank you Smita, it means a lot to me hearing this from someone I regard as talented.
Can't believe this was your first animation. Really effective. I think it was important too. Never heard of the expression Homunculus. I loved all the work going on with the jar.
Thanks very much Alex! I've seen some really great animation in this competition and it's something to aspire to. Homunculus literally means "little person" and it connects with the idea behind the piece as I wrote to you. It's a very interesting myth, creating something living from nothing
Dear Vangelis,
I was finally able to view your work. It was pretty cool, I love stop motion. It made me think of this amazing puppet show I saw yesterday on the street.
Well done!
Great work! Especially considering it's your first animation. Very well edited and nicely scored. Has a nice feel to it. The only problem i had was that the frame was being resized on edits which looked a bit weird but i don't know if it was your fault or maybe just the encoding error. I loved it anyway!Greg Karpinski - director of "Clinic"
great idea, just sucked that he died, well done
Thanks Greg! Yeah, haven't got the slightest clue about why the frame resizes. It looks fine on my computer.
very well done..very different concept u have used. Great animation and it shows that u have worked very hard on it.. all the best
Nice stop-motion! Wonderful concept! I've always wanted to make a stop-motion animation myself and I know it's not easy. Good luck!
Thank you Joseph. Stop motion is not hard, just laborious and it requires some carefull planning. Anyone with a couple of free days can do something good.
or did he,ha ha, i like your comeback, let me know if his story continues
Well, I figured out how the story could continue and still be relevant last night in the shower (my personal shrine of inspiration), so you might see more of the little guy in the future.
very nice job of stop motion, i think some detail some have been better, but i know this style of work is very long and not so easy. i think you have a real talent and i hope you'll continue doing this! Good Luck!
