This short film is a visual protest about the revolution happening in America today. This film is narrated by a spoken-word poem that highlights what many Black Americans are feeling, our frustration, our pain and the difficulty we have convincing others that there is a problem that needs immediate attention, a problem that has been deeply embedded in every fabric of our society for decades, even centuries. A generational disease plaguing the hearts and minds of the people, blinding their morality and ability to see whats happening in broad daylight, racism runs deep, and the more we let it fester, the more difficult it is to fully extricate. This film is not only about the struggle, it is also about the power of our voices, and the importance of having allies from different cultural, social and economic backgrounds, all coming together to stand up and fight against police brutality and systemic racism.
If the content of this film makes you uncomfortable, you must ask yourself why? We must continue to have these “uncomfortable” conversations. We must get to the root of this problem if we want to see real change. We must not get distracted, we must not lose momentum. We must break down these barriers and open the eyes of the ignorant.
It’s a privilege to live in this country and not be affected by the issues expressed in this film. Apathy, is a luxury. It’s a privilege if your biggest concern right now is when will the world reopen and get back to “normal”? For many African Americans, “back to normal” isn’t good enough. We cannot go back to the way things were, we must continue to fight for change, to dismantle the racist and unjust system for good, for all.
This film shows the beauty, grace, pride and strength that allows our people to continue to rise and through relentless unity and unwillingness to back down, Black Americans, with our allies on our side, can and will fix this broken system.
