After realizing in 7th grade that he couldnít do the math and science required to get into veterinary school, Peter Chen had an early life crisis. He then turned his attention to writing and the movies. Next he toiled for several years as a story analyst, babysitter, tutor, agentís assistant, and writerís assistant, until he co-wrote and sold the script "Untitled Karate Project" to Universal Pictures in 2006 with David O. Russell (The Fighter, Three Kings) attached as a producer.
Chen then co-wrote an action comedy feature film script with David O. Russell (which is in development with the production company The Gotham Group) and is the writer/director of the short films "Child Reduction Act", "Birders", and "Market Price".
"Child Reduction Act" played at several film festivals including The Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival, Taos Shortz Film Festival, and The Doomsday Film Festival in New York. "Child Reduction Act" was picked up for distribution by Dark Matter Dvds.
Chen was chosen as a 2009 Film Independent Project:Involve writer/director fellow.
His short film "Market Price" was sponsored by Vanity Fair, Banana Republic, and Film Independent and was the winner of the 2009 Banana Republic Audience award in which over
65,000 total contest votes were tallied. "Market Price" also won the 2010 Audience Award for the ACV Cinema Me Contest, sponsored by Toyota.
He's currently working on Season 5 of the Showtime series "Dexter", and recently directed a Doritos commercial for a contest, and the music video "BFF" for artist Drew Campbell.
