Biography Barbara Rothenborg was born in Copenhagen, Denmark on August 29, 1979. She started her film and television career as an actress at the age of 6 where she had her first hit television series. In the following years, Barbara starred in many films, produced several documentary programs and created her own show “Barbara’s Galaxy”. She started directing at the age of 17 and was commissioned to direct short films for Danish television. After living in Bali, Barbara moved to Los Angeles at the age of 21 and started a career as a 1st AD. Three of the short films Barbara has directed were nominated for Best Dramatic Short at the 2007 NOHO Film festival. She also had a film shown at the Danish Film Festival LA in October 2007 and one of her films is being used as a help tool for children in trouble on the non-profit website: The Children’s Defense: www.barnets-forsvar.dk
She recently sold her first screenplay “Tabloid Romance” to Nimbus Film and in February 08 she was hired to adapt the screenplay for the best selling Danish movie: “Love at First Hiccup”. The film is currently casting and shooting begins in Oct. 08.
Barbara was inspired by film makers such as Alan Parker (who, with his unique film “Angle Heart”, gave her an early passion for the occult) David Lynch, who’s mystique continues to rock her to her core, the odd and wonderful world of Charlie Kaufman, Alexander Payne’s characters who touches her deeply and Baz Luhrmann’s fascinating universe, which never fails to amaze her.
Since arriving in the U.S.; Barbara has been an AD on 19 feature films, written 5 original feature lengths screenplays, over 20 short films and several television pilots. She has directed numerous music videos and commercials as well as 10 short films.
She now resides in Los Angeles.
