Biography Actress Mädchen Amick stars as Alice Cooper, editor of Riverdale’s local newspaper and overbearing mother to Betty, in The CW’s drama “Riverdale.”
At the age of 16, Amick dropped out of school with her parents’ blessing and moved to Los Angeles, where she found work in modeling, music videos and guest starring roles. Soon after, director David Lynch, who played a pivotal role in her development as an actress, cast her in the cult classic series “Twin Peaks,” for which she reprised her role in the acclaimed re-boot.A highlight of Amick’s career came in the feature film “Dream Lover,” in which she co-starred with James Spader. The late Roger Ebert called her performance “perfect” and that he expected to “see more great things from this talented actress.”
Amick has since worked on a myriad of projects on both the big and small screen. Her past film credits include Steven King’s “Sleepwalkers,” “Trapped in Paradise,” opposite Nicholas Cage, “Scenes of the Crime” with Jeff Bridges and “Priest,” opposite Paul Bettany and Christopher Plummer. Her television credits include “Witches of East End,” “American Horror Story,” “Longmire,” “Californication,” “Damages,” “Gossip Girl,” “ER” and “Mad Men.”
Amick recently made her directorial debut with her daughter’s “Kings & Queens” music video, which received the “Best Music Video” honor at the IFS Film Festival. Along with her son, Amick is involved with the BringChange2Mind organization whose mission is to end the stigma and discrimination surrounding mental illness.
